BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU baseball alum Justin Topa has been added to the Milwaukee Brewers' 60-man roster. The 2013 grad of LIU Brooklyn has been named to the Taxi Squad team in Appleton, Wisc.
A right-handed pitcher, Topa was drafted in the 17
th round of the Major League Baseball Draft in 2012 by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Since being drafted, he has pitched in the Pirates' minor league system, as well as the Independent Frontier League, with the New York Rockland Boulders. With his success there, he signed with the Rangers, and most recently, signed with the Brewers' organization in 2019 as a reliever.
Topa had been pitching for the Biloxi Shuckers, a Double-A affiliate of the Brewers. He posted a 2.63 ERA over 24 innings in relief for Biloxi in 2019.
Topa pitched for LIU in Brooklyn from 2010-2013. In his senior season, he went 8-6 on the mound, including four complete games, and finished the season with a 4.05 ERA and 81 strikeouts.
