TEANECK, N.J. – The Long Island University fencing team competed in the FDU Invitational hosted by FDU on Saturday. The Sharks faced six teams throughout the day.

The day began with a matchup against New Jersey Institute of Technology. The epee team of
Grace Scura,
Faith Ferraro, and
Alina Chen captured an 8-1 victory. The Sharks ended up falling to the Highlanders 15-12. Karen Valasquez earned a 5-3 bout win in the saber.

LIU then battled Lafayette. The same epee trio of Scura, Ferraro, and Chen took another 8-1 win. Valasquez had a 5-1 bout victory in the foil, and then added another against Stevens Tech in the third match of the afternoon.

The Sharks were able to add one to the win column after taking down the host Knights 15-10. The three epee competitors earned their third victory of the day. The foil team won 6-3 and saber squad won 4-3.
