Women's Basketball Closes Homestand Monday Night Against Sacred Heart

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The Long Island University women's basketball team closes out its homestand at the Steinberg Wellness Center on Monday, February 17 with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Sacred Heart.

  • LIU suffered a 71-54 setback to local rival, St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Brandy Thomas recorded a team-high 13 points to go with four assists and three steals. Sophomore Ryan Weise added 10 points and seven boards. Sophomore Kiara Bell tied her career-high with 13 rebounds and finished with eight points for the Sharks.
  • Sacred Heart comes into Monday's matchup with an 8-15 record on the year and a 5-7 mark in NEC play. The Pioneers are in the midst of a four-game losing skid
  • Junior guard Adrianne Hagood leads the Pioneers and ranks second in the NEC in scoring with 16.8 points per game this season. She also ranks third in the NEC with a 42.4% field goal percentage and 2.3 made three-point field goals per game. SHU also features two more scorers averaging double figures in junior Jayla Davis (10.3 ppg) and redshirt-junior Nikki Johnson (10.2 ppg). Junior Abigail Kangudie leads the team with 7.7 rebounds per game and has added 1.5 blocks per game.
  • Sacred Heart leads the all-time series over LIU, 24-16. Both teams split the season series last year with each team winning on their home court. LIU earned a 69-64 win over the Pioneers on February 18, 2019 at the Barclays Center. Jeydah Johnson led the team with 20 points and Brandy Thomas contributed a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
The Sharks will hit the road for a two-game weekend, first up for LIU is a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, February 21 at the Rothman Center. It will be the opening game of a doubleheader with the men's teams.
