BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's basketball team will look to continue its four-game Northeast Conference winning streak Monday afternoon, as the Sharks (9-9, 4-1 NEC) will travel across the Verrazano Bridge to take on Wagner. The two teams will face off in the second half of a double header, Monday, January 20 at 4 p.m.
SHARK BITES
- LIU won its fourth straight Northeast Conference contest Saturday afternoon in the Chace Athletic Center, beating Bryant 74-60. The Sharks were led by double doubles from senior Raiquan Clark (21 points, 14 rebounds) and junior Ty Flowers (18 points, 10 rebounds).
- Senior Jashaun Agosto had 12 points (going 4-for-7 from the field), along with six rebounds, a team-high four assists and two steals.
- Sophomore Virshon Cotton had 11 points, going 3-for-5 from the field, along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Wagner (4-12, 1-4 NEC) has struggled, dropping four straight games after beating Mount St. Mary's in their NEC opener.
- Wagner and LIU have one of the oldest rivalries in the Northeast Conference, in a series that dates back to 1928. LIU holds the all-time edge, 61-51, but Wagner took both games last season. The Seahawks beat LIU 71-59 on Staten Island, and 68-65 in Brooklyn.
- Curtis Cobb (17.1 ppg) and Alex Morales (14.8 ppg) lead scoring for the Seahawks so far this season.
- Up next for LIU is a return home to host two of the toughest teams in the NEC. The Sharks will take on Saint Francis U. and Robert Morris, January 23 and 25th in the Steinberg Wellness Center later this week.
