MILLSBORO, Del. – The Long Island University bowling team finished Friday's competition at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic on a strong note, registering two wins to finish the day with a 2-3 record heading into Saturday's traditional rounds.
The Sharks started the day with three tough losses, including two to a couple of the top teams in the nation. LIU opened the day taking on #6 Arkansas State, and fell, 847-940 (189-195, 155-214, 174-177, 144-196, 185-158). Match two featured #15 Delaware State, who beat the Sharks, 888-983 (206-194, 198-190, 156-192, 151-203, 177-204). And the third match of the day featured a tough loss to conference foe St. Francis Brooklyn, 910-954 (162-214, 190-202, 202-188, 184-170, 172-180).
The second half of the day, LIU started to turn things around, starting with an 885-859 win over Caldwell (194-183, 159-130, 167-192, 194-162, 171-192). From there, LIU upended #9 nationally-ranked FDU by just four pins, 955-951 (160-175, 223-163, 214-196, 174-182, 184-235).
Up next for the Sharks is day two of the UMES Hawk Classic, featuring five traditional games against five teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation.
