ROCKWAY, N.J. – The Long Island University bowling team had a strong first day at the Caldwell Cougar Classic, going 4-1 and finishing second in the standings. One of those wins included a huge win over No. 9 Fairleigh Dickinson.
 
The No. 24 ranked Sharks open the five-game Baker match day with a dominating win over Felician, 923-793. They followed that up with a close loss to No. 25 Monmouth, 834-859, before rallying for their biggest win of the day.
 
LIU beat Northeast Conference foe and No. 9 nationally ranked FDU handily, 889-815. The Sharks ended the day with two more wins, beating NJCU 792-635, and Bloomfield, 912-840.
 
Up next, the Sharks continue with tournament play, playing five traditional matches Saturday (based on win-loss), and a traditional match followed by two best-of-7 baker matches on Sunday.
