BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Long Island University men's lacrosse team (2-0, 0-0 NEC) picked up its second victory to open the 2026 season, defeating Monmouth University 9-8 at Shark Stadium on Saturday.
Monmouth took an early 2-0 lead in Saturday's game, but six consecutive LIU goals put the Sharks back on top. Junior Ben Schuster put the Sharks on the board with a goal with 9:31 remaining in the second quarter, while freshman Blake Mason tied the game with a goal of his own less than 30 seconds later. Junior Ben McIsaac gave LIU the lead with a goal with 3:10 remaining, quickly followed by another goal by senior Cameron Connolly.
Schuster tallied on his second goal of the game with four seconds left in the first half, and netted a hat trick with a goal with 9:16 left in the third quarter.
LIU and Monmouth then traded the next four goals, as redshirt sophomore Antony Tsakos and McIsaac both answered a pair of Hawk goals.
Monmouth rallied to tie the game at eight, tacking on a goal with just over a minute left in the game, but Mason scored his second goal of the game with 52 seconds left, helping seal LIU's win.
The Sharks return to action on Saturday, Feb. 21, when they travel to face Iona University at 1 p.m.
