Mason Porter-Brown Scores 29 Points, Sharks Defeat CCSU on the Road

LIU holds Blue Devils to 23 second-half points

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Long Island University men's basketball team (14-8, 8-1 NEC) dominated the second half of Saturday's conference road game at Central Connecticut State on Saturday, defeating the Blue Devils 80-59 in Connecticut.

LIU held a narrow 37-36 lead after the first 20 minutes of play, but outscored CCSU 43-23 in the second half to claim its second consecutive 20-plus point win.

The Blue Devils came out of the gate strong on Saturday afternoon, leading by as many as 10 points through the first eight minutes of play; however, LIU began to chip away at the Blue Devil lead, eventually taking a 33-31 lead on a powerful dunk by junior Mason Porter-Brown.

CCSU once again tied the game and took the lead on back-to-back possessions in the final minute before halftime, but a jump shot by junior Jomo Goings gave the Sharks their one-point lead right before halftime.

The Blue Devils rattled off four quick points to begin the second half, but a 15-2 LIU scoring put the Sharks on top for good, as LIU maintained a consistent double-digit lead over the final eight-and-a-half minutes of the game.

Mason Porter-Brown led the Sharks with a season-high 29 points, shooting 10-11 from the field and 5-6 from beyond the arc. Jamal Fuller and Shadrak Lasu also finished in double figures, scoring 23 and 10 points, respectively.

Lasu posted the fifth double-double of his career with a game-high 10 rebounds, while Fuller and redshirt senior Malachi Davis tied for a team-high six assists each.

LIU returns to the floor on Thursday, Feb. 5, at home against the University of New Haven at 7 p.m. in Brooklyn.
