SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's basketball team (12-8, 7-2 NEC) bounced back with a road win over Le Moyne College on Thursday night, defeating the Dolphins 84-65 to earn the regular season sweep over Le Moyne.
LIU opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers by junior Janessa Williams, though the Dolphins battled back to take a 14-11 lead after the first quarter. With both teams tied at 28 midway through the second quarter, the Sharks closed out the first half on a 12-4 scoring run to take a 40-32 lead into halftime.
The Sharks never trailed in the second half, maintaining a steady double-digit lead over the final 20 minutes of play. LIU scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to help seal its eventual 19-point win.
Williams led the Sharks with 23 points on Thursday, connecting on five-of-seven three-point attempts, while senior Kadidia Toure finished the game with 19 points. Graduate student Kionna Gaines led LIU with 11 rebounds, while junior Solangelei Akridge totaled a game-high eight assists.
LIU shot 48.1% from beyond the three-point arc on Thursday, making 13 of 28 attempts in the win.
The Sharks return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 31, when they host Central Connecticut State University at 2 p.m. at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn.
