EASTON, Mass. - The Long Island University men's basketball team (12-8, 6-1 NEC) bounced back with a win over Stonehill College on Friday night, defeating the Skyhawks 66-63 on the road.
Stonehill led by as many as 12 points in the first half on Friday night, though LIU fought its way back into the game and took the lead on a three-point play by senior Greg Gordon. Following a late Stonehill basket, LIU entered halftime down by one, with a 36-35 Stonehill lead.
LIU scored the first six points of the second half to regain the lead, however the two teams traded baskets throughout the final 20 minutes. Stonehill gained a six-point lead with 3:21 remaining in the game, but the Sharks went on a quick 7-1 scoring run to take a 62-61 lead over the Skyhawks, capped off by a jump shot by graduate student Jamal Fuller. The Sharks connected on four free throws in the final minute to seal their 66-63 road win.
Fuller and Gordon tied for a game-high 20 points in the win, while junior Jomo Goings also netted 11 points on Friday night. Sophomore Shadrak Lasu collected 11 rebounds, while Fuller and Goings tied for a team-high in assists (3).
