BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Long Island University softball team (26-23, 16-5 Northeast Conference) fell 6-0 to Saint Francis University in the NEC Softball Championship title game on Sunday morning, concluding the 2025 season for the Sharks.
Saint Francis jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring an additional run in the top of the sixth inning to reach the 6-0 final score.
Graduate student Dallas Andrews led the Sharks with two hits, including a double in the bottom of the sixth inning, while sophomore Jaedyn Lincoln and senior Priscilla Gillies each recorded a hit.
The Sharks had three selections to the NEC All-Tournament Team; junior Devon Medina, freshman Hannah Burnett and junior Alyssa Garcia. Burnett and Garcia each hit home runs in the top of the seventh inning in LIU's 8-6 comeback win over Central Connecticut State University on Saturday, while Medina had five hits and two RBI in the tournament.
LIU, the NEC regular season champion, ends the 2025 season with a 26-23 overall record and a 16-5 mark in NEC contests. The Shark coaching staff, led by Interim Head Coach Andy Russo and assisted by Bill Gehrke and Ryan Henry, was named the NEC Coaching Staff of the Year. LIU had three First-Team All-NEC selections; sophomore Lily Hinkle, sophomore Kaylee Clarkson and senior Alyssa Polemeni. Garcia and sophomore Sophia Mariottini were both named to the Second-Team All-NEC list, while Burnett was on the NEC All-Rookie team.
