BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Long Island University men's volleyball team (17-5, 5-1 NEC) won its fourth consecutive game, defeating D'Youville 3-1 on the road on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast Conference matchup.
"Great team win today," LIU men's volleyball Head Coach Justin Beaumont said. "We are growing as a team, and some things are clicking at the right time. Back to work this week."
After sweeping the Saints in three sets on Friday night, the Sharks picked up right where they left off on Saturday afternoon, opening the match with a 25-18 win in the first set followed up by a 25-19 win in the second frame.
There wouldn't be another sweep for LIU, as D'Youville claimed a 25-20 win over the Sharks, overcoming a late LIU rally. The Sharks didn't let losing a set derail them in the match, as LIU dominated in a 25-13 win in the fourth set to win the match 3-1.
Junior Chase Celichowski led LIU with 18 kills, followed by junior Kale Spencer's 16 kills and nine from junior Christopher Knowles. Sophomore Roei Horovitz picked up 49 assists in the win, while senior Alex Weinhaus led the Sharks with 14 digs. Junior Drew McNellis led LIU with 3.5 total blocks.
LIU returns to the Steinberg Wellness Center on Friday, April 11, against Merrimack for the final home game of the regular season, with the match beginning at 5 p.m.
