Sharks Honor Three at Senior Night

Jack Sarnowski, Luca Holanda and Alex Weinhaus recognized ahead of Friday’s match

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Three members of the Long Island University men's volleyball team were honored ahead of Friday night's regular season home finale against Merrimack, as setter Jack Sarnowski, setter Luca Holanda and libero Alex Weinhaus were recognized on their senior night. 

Sarnowski is a graduate student majoring in data analytics from Winter Springs, Florida. In his two seasons with the Sharks, the 6-foot-3-inch setter has received Prime Performer honors earlier this season from the Northeast Conference and was a NEC Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll Recipient in 2024.  

Holanda, a senior majoring in finance from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a four-year member of the LIU Men's Volleyball team, joining in the program's inaugural season of 2022. The 6-foot-2-inch setter was a member of LIU's 2023 Northeast Conference Men's Volleyball Tournament Championship-winning team, winning in the inaugural year of the tournament. Luca was also a NEC Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll Recipient in 2024.  

Weinhaus is a senior majoring in exercise science from Smithtown, N.Y. A two-year member of the LIU men's volleyball team, the 5-foot-8-inch libero received Prime Performer honors earlier this season from the NEC and was a NEC Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll Recipient in 2024. 

LIU fell to the Warriors in four sets on Friday night, seeing its four-match winning streak come to a close. Freshman Lucas Ramos led the Sharks with 11 kills in the match, while Sarnowski led the team with 16 assists – Holanda was close behind his fellow honoree, recording 15 assists in the match. Junior Isaac Benka led the team with four total blocks, while Ramos paced LIU with eight digs. 

The Sharks return to the court for a two-game set against Saint Francis University next weekend, with the first match beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
