LORETTO, Pa. - The Long Island University men's volleyball team (17-8, 5-3 Northeast Conference) closed out the regular season against Saint Francis University on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Red Flash in four sets.
After the Red Flash won the opening set 25-22, the Sharks rallied to even the match at 1-1, winning the second frame by a score of 25-21 on a kill by junior outside hitter Kale Spencer. Despite tying the match, LIU fell to the Red Flash in both the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-19, respectively.
Spencer led the Sharks with 13 kills, followed by junior outside hitter Chase Celichowski's 10 kills and eight kills from junior opposite hitter Christopher Knowles. Junior middle blocker Drew McNellis paced the Sharks with three blocks, while sophomore setter Roei Horovitz led the team in both assists (36) and digs (11).
LIU ends the regular season with a 5-3 record in NEC matches, finishing in second place of the conference standings. Up next is the NEC Men's Volleyball Championship, hosted from April 25-26 at Saint Francis. Match times are to be determined.
