LIU Ends Season Against Daemen at the NEC Tournament

Sharks fall 3-2 to the Wildcats

LORETTO, PA – The 2025 season came to an end for the Long Island University men's volleyball team on Friday, falling 3-2 to No. 3 seeded Daemen in the Northeast Conference tournament.

LIU won the first set 25-23, taking a 1-0 lead in the match, but the Wildcats responded by winning the next two frames by scores of 25-20 and 25-15, respectively.

With their backs against the wall the Sharks continued to fight, tying the match at 2-2 by winning the fourth frame 25-15, scoring on seven of the final eight rallies including a set-winning kill by junior Kale Spencer.

Although LIU was able to tie the match entering the fifth and final frame, they were unable to slow down the Wildcats down the stretch, as Daemen earned a 15-7 win in the fifth set to win the match 3-2.

Spencer led the Sharks with 16 kills, followed by seven kills from juniors Isaac Benka and Chase Celichowski. Benka had a team-high six total blocks, sophomore Roei Horovitz recorded 33 assists and senior Alex Weinhaus totaled 13 digs.

LIU closes the 2025 season with a 17-9 overall record, going 5-3 in NEC play and finishing second in the league standings this spring. The 17 wins for the Sharks are the most in the regular season in program history.
