Dover, Del. — Just one day after scoring a season-high thirteen runs in Saturday's win over Delaware State, LIU picked up right where it left off and set yet a new season-high in a 16-5 victory on Sunday to sweep the weekend series against the conference opponent.
The Sharks initially found themselves trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning, but that's when the weekend's scoring onslaught continued. LIU broke things open with a six-run inning, sparked by RBI singles from
Jacob Pipercic and
Noah Sorensen. As the Sharks continued to put ducks on the pond, a
Jack Power ground out scored the third run of the inning. Sorensen later came around to score on a wild pitch, and
Cord Dobrinski hit an RBI triple before eventually crossing home himself to put LIU ahead 7-3.
Dobrinski's success at the plate certainly didn't end there, as he launched a two-run homer to center later in the seventh, helping LIU add to its lead. This was the junior's third home run in four games for the Sharks, and he finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base.
Joining Dobrinski in hitting his third homer in four games was
Jack Power, who hit a solo shot – his NEC-leading ninth of the year – in the eighth inning.
Ryan Rivera also went a season's best 3-for-5 at the plate, scoring three runs, while starting pitcher
Justin DeCastro struck out six in seven innings for LIU in the win.
Now winners of four straight, the Sharks will return to the field on Tuesday, March 25, hosting Siena at 3 p.m.
