The LIU men's lacrosse team continues to shine during its record-breaking season, setting a program record with its seventh-straight win—the most consecutive victories during the Shark era—after defeating Detroit Mercy 14-9 on Saturday afternoon.
LIU opened with a 2-0 first-quarter lead after
Owen Stefanko and
Charlie Hunnewell each found the back of the net in the opening frame.
Detroit Mercy then responded with four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead—but that did not last long.
The Sharks answered with a pair of goals from
Nick Colantonio and
Mark Regan to tie the game at four just two minutes before halftime.
LIU dominated the third quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to pull ahead 9-4 with 5:31 left in the period.
Mark Regan, who finished the game with four goals, three assists, and four ground balls, netted his fourth and final goal to extend the Sharks' lead to 11-6. LIU then added four more goals in the fourth quarter to secure its seventh-straight victory.
The Sharks also improved to 4-0 at home, tying the program's best home start since the 2021 and 2023 seasons, when they won four straight from Feb. 27 to April 27 in 2021 and from March 11 to April 8 in 2023.
LIU goaltender
Brayden Wilcken remained perfect at 7-0 after making 12 saves on the afternoon.
Ryan Fountain and
Tyler Davide finished the game with four ground balls each.
The Sharks are 2-0 in NEC play and next take the field at Wagner on Friday at 3 p.m.
