Dover, Del. — LIU baseball earned its third straight win with a 13-6 victory over Delaware State on Saturday afternoon.
The Sharks never trailed in this one, picking up an early 1-0 lead as soon as the first inning, courtesy of a
Jack Power groundout to score
Jacob Pipercic. The game's first run may not have seemed like much at first, but it was a sign of good things to come all day long for Power and Pipercic as the duo teamed up to lead LIU to an impressive victory.
Currently standing tall and tied for the NEC's home run lead, Power crushed his eighth of the year – a grand slam – in the fourth inning to help grow LIU's at the time to 7-2. It was part of a 2-for-4 day for Power, who drove in 5 runs. He now leads the Sharks with 19 RBI on the year and is tied for the third best mark in the conference.
Pipercic exhibited great activity on the base paths in the lead off spot for LIU. He went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, three walks and two stolen bases, while also hitting a two-run triple in the eighth inning as the Sharks extended their lead yet again, this time to 11-5.
Ryan Rivera hit a two-run double for LIU,
Max Samson went 3-for-6 with an RBI, and
Joseph Durso also tallied two hits and drove in a run via a sacrifice fly for LIU in the contest.
LIU and Delaware State will play one more this weekend, taking the field on Sunday, March 23 at 1 p.m.
