BROOKLYN, N.Y. — As Shark Weekend concluded in Brooklyn, LIU lost a close one to Chicago State by a score of 55-49.
As the game began, the Sharks found themselves up early on, leading after the first quarter for the third straight contest. Though LIU later relinquished its lead, the two teams matched up pretty evenly, with neither side truly pulling ahead completely as the Sharks and the Cougars jostled throughout. However, the eight-point lead that Chicago State amassed by the end of the third quarter proved to be enough to hold on for a victory, as LIU was unable to claw its way back in the fourth.
Despite the loss, the Sharks were led by Brianna Mead, who poured in a new season-high of 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field. Janessa Williams grabbed 10 rebounds for the second straight game (making it five consecutive with 9 boards or more for the sophomore) to go with a season-high 4 assists. Sirviva Legions added 14 points for LIU.
LIU will play next on Thursday, Feb. 6, hosting Wagner at 7 p.m.
