BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University women's volleyball team (15-8, 12-1 NEC) claimed its second consecutive five-set win on Friday night, defeating FDU 3-2 at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn.
The Sharks, who remain on top of the NEC standings, also defeated Saint Francis University 3-2 on Saturday, Nov. 1.
LIU opened Friday night's match against the Knights with a dominant 25-14 win in the opening frame, though the two teams battled it out over the next two sets; FDU earned a 27-25 win in the second set, while the Sharks went up 2-1 in the match with a 28-26 third-set win.
After the Knights tied the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set, the match entered a deciding fifth set. LIU took an early 8-1 lead in the final frame, eventually riding out to a 15-8 win to win the match 3-2.
Sophomore Bella Correia led the Sharks with 19 kills, followed by 16 from junior Sara van Gisteren and 13 by junior Yasmeen Muhammad. Sophomore Miabella Musignac totaled 18 digs, while senior Karly Klaer finished the match with 48 assists.
NEC-leading LIU hosts FDU again on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m.
