Greg Gordon Scores 29 Points, Sharks Come Back to Defeat IU Indy for First Win

Sharks even record at 1-1 after high-scoring win

INDIANAPOLIS — The Long Island University men's basketball team claimed its first win of the season Thursday night, defeating the IU Indy 94-90 on the road in a strong outing by senior Greg Gordon.

While the Sharks trailed 53-46 at the break, Gordon, a guard from Chicago, Illinois, scored 17 of his game-high 29 points in the second half, surging the Sharks as they outscored the Jaguars 48-37 in the second half.

While the Sharks found themselves down early in Thursday's clash, a three-pointer by redshirt senior Malachi Davis put LIU up 11-8 just over three minutes into the contest. The two teams traded leads four more times over the remainder of the first half before IU Indy took its seven-point advantage into the locker room at halftime.

An early three-pointer by junior Mason Porter-Brown sparked the Sharks on the offensive end, as LIU tied the game at 66 with 14:30 remaining in the second half on a dunk by junior Isaiah Miranda. As the two teams battled down the stretch, a Gordon layup gave LIU an 89-88 lead in the final three minutes, as the Sharks held on for the road win.

Gordon (29), Porter-Brown (18), Davis (14), Miranda, and sophomore Shadrak Lasu (10) all finished Thursday's game in double-figures. Junior Jomo Goings led the Sharks with 12 rebounds, while Gordon, Porter-Brown and Goings each tied for a team-high four assists.

LIU wraps up its three-game road trip on Tuesday, Nov. 11, taking on the United States Air Force Academy at 4 p.m.
