USAFA, Colo. — The Long Island University men's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 NEC) concluded its three-game road trip with a game against the United States Air Force Academy on Tuesday, defeating the Falcons 76-72.
The Sharks narrowly trailed 33-32 at the break, but regained the lead on a jumpshot by redshirt senior Malachi Davis on LIU's first possession of the second half. Following a back-and-forth next seven minutes, LIU took a two-point lead on a dunk from senior Greg Gordon, holding on that lead over the final 13 minutes of play.
Davis and graduate student Jamal Fuller tied for a team-high 14 points, while redshirt sophomore Tre'shawn Sheppard was closely behind with 12 points. Sheppard earned his first career double-double on Tuesday after leading LIU with 13 rebounds against Air Force.
LIU outscored the Falcons both in transition (15-5) and in bench points (36-18) on Tuesday evening.
After taking on the University of Notre Dame, Indiana University Indianapolis, and Air Force all on the road to begin the season, LIU takes the floor in Brooklyn for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 15. Tip off is at 7 p.m. inside the Steinberg Wellness Center.
