BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University men's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 NEC) scored 56 points in the first half on Saturday night, defeating the visiting James Madison University Dukes (2-3, 0-0 Sun Belt) 88-79 at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn.
Saturday's win was the first for the Sharks over James Madison, who had previously won the last four matchups between the programs.
Redshirt senior Malachi Davis, graduate student Jamal Fuller, and senior Greg Gordon each finished the first half with double-digit points, including 13 by Fuller. The Sharks shot 7-10 from three in the first half, building a strong 56-39 lead at halftime.
Despite a late James Madison surge, the Sharks managed to hold on to their lead and claim an 88-79 win over the Dukes, the first for LIU at home this season.
Fuller and Davis tied for a team-high 21 points, followed by 17 from Gordon and 13 by junior Jomo Goings. Fuller collected eight rebounds, while Davis assisted on eight baskets.
LIU travels to Fordham University on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
