BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Three members of the Long Island University women's volleyball team received honors from the NEC on Tuesday, as junior Sara van Gisteren was named the NEC/Molten Player of the Week and sophomore Miabella Musignac received NEC/Molten Defensive Player of the Week honors.
In addition, senior Karly Klaer was named an NEC Prime Performer. van Gisteren and Musignac also received Prime Performer honors.
van Gisteren recorded 26 kills and five total blocks in LIU's four-set win over FDU on Saturday, both of which set season-high marks for the Leuth, Netherlands native. The junior outside hitter finished last week with 42 kills, three assists, 25 digs and six total blocks.
This is the third NEC/Molten Player of the Week honor for van Gisteren this fall, and her sixth Prime Performer award.
Musignac recorded 35 digs in LIU's two matches last week, and now has nine consecutive matches with double-digit digs. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native also has 21 matches with double-digit digs this season.
This is Musignac's fifth NEC/Molten Defensive Player of the Week honor this fall, and seventh Prime Performer honor.
Klaer received her sixth Prime Performer award on Tuesday, having finished last week with 12 kills, 93 assists, 11 service aces, 17 digs and one total block. The senior from St. Joseph, Michigan recorded a career-high eight service aces against FDU on Saturday.
