BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University women's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 NEC) took their home floor for the first time this winter, defeating Kean University 89-27 in a wire-to-wire win.
LIU led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter, then took a 45-19 lead into the halftime locker room. The Sharks held Kean to just eight second-half points, scoring 44 points of their own over the final 20 minutes to earn its eventual 89-27 win.
Senior Kadidia Toure paced the Sharks in scoring, finishing Tuesday's game with 20 points. Toure's 20 points was followed by 13 from junior Janessa Williams and 11 by freshman Saran Diallo Toure. Each Shark that entered the game finished with at least one basket.
The Sharks collected 53 rebounds in the win, led by 11 from Diallo Toure, who recorded her first career double-double. Graduate student Janiya Reed finished the game with a team-high five assists.
LIU returns to the court on Saturday, Nov. 15, for a road clash against Delaware State University.
