LORETTO, Pa. - The Long Island University volleyball team (14-8, 11-1 NEC) bounced back with a win on Saturday evening, defeating Saint Francis University (15-8, 10-2 NEC) 3-2 on the road.
LIU took an early 2-0 lead in the match by winning the first set 25-15 and the second set 25-20, but the Red Flash stormed back to tie the match at two, with closely contested 25-23 and 27-25 wins in the third and fourth sets, respectively.
In a winner-take-all fifth frame, the Sharks held strong for a 15-12 win over Saint Francis, retaking the top spot in the NEC standings.
Junior Yasmeen Muhammad led the Sharks with 22 kills in the win, a new season-high for the Shoreline, Washington native, while sophomore Bella Correia was closely behind with 21 kills. Sophomore Miabella Musignac paced the Sharks with 24 digs, senior Karly Klaer recorded 53 assists, and sophomore Sara Garcia finished the match with six total blocks.
Earlier this week, LIU secured its spot in the NEC Women's Volleyball Tournament that will be hosted by the conference's regular season champion from Nov. 21-22.
LIU hosts FDU on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.
