van Gisteren named Co-Player of the Week, Musignac awarded Defensive Player of the Week

Karly Klaer receives Prime Performer honors

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Three members of the Long Island University women's volleyball team garnered weekly awards from the NEC on Tuesday, as junior Sara van Gisteren, sophomore Miabella Musignac and senior Karly Klaer were all honored after helping guide the Sharks to a 3-0 record last week. 

van Gisteren was named the NEC/Molten Women's Volleyball Co-Player of the Week, Musignac was named the NEC/Molten Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, and Klaer received Prime Performer honors. Musignac and van Gisteren were also named Prime Performers. 

An outside hitter from Leuth, Netherlands, van Gisteren recorded her second-most kills of the season on Sept. 30 against NJIT, finishing the match with 20 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. The junior outside hitter finished the week with 47 total kills, had a hitting percentage of .380 last week, and also recorded six assists, five service aces, 26 digs and eight total blocks. 

This is the third time van Gisteren has been named a Prime Performer this season, also receiving honors on Sept. 3 and Sept. 23. 

Musignac totaled 43 digs in three matches last week, including 19 in LIU's 3-0 defeat of NJIT on Sept. 30. Her 19 digs are tied for the second-most in her career.   

The San Juan, Puerto Rico native received her second Defensive Player of the Week honor this season (Sept. 23), and her second Prime Performer award this year.  

Klaer finished last week with 17 total kills on a hitting percentage of .375, totaling 101 assists, three service aces, 17 digs and four total blocks. 

This is the third Prime Performer award for the St. Joseph, Michigan native this season, also receiving the same honors on Sept. 23 and Sept. 30.
