BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - Graduate student goalkeeper Manuel Diez Teran of the Long Island University men's water polo team was named the Northeast Water Polo Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced on Tuesday.
"Manuel is incredibly deserving of defensive player of the week!" head coach Morgan Allison said. "As our team leader on defense, he consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication and leadership. He strives to be the best he can be, motivating the entire team to elevate their performance. His commitment and passion truly set him apart.
Diez Teran recorded 27 saves in LIU's three matches last week, including 12 against Harvard University on Oct. 4, the second-most saves the graduate student has recorded in a game this season.
The Madrid, Spain native has totaled 116 saves, three assists, and 18 steals in 45 quarters played for the Sharks this season.
In addition to Diez Teran receiving the Defensive Player of the Week award, sophomore driver Jack French and freshman utility Francisco de Zengotita Rodriguez both received honor roll regards for NWPC Player of the Week and NWPC Rookie of the Week, respectively.
LIU travels to Iona University on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m.
