SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's volleyball team (7-7, 4-0 NEC) earned the season sweep of Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Dolphins in a 3-0 road win.
LIU trailed by as many as five points early in the first set of Saturday's match, but a kill by junior Sara van Gisteren tied the set at 16. The Sharks then closed out the opening frame by scoring on nine of the final 10 rallies, taking a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 win in the first set.
The Sharks came out strong in the second set, as a kill by junior Yasmeen Muhammad gave LIU a 7-0 lead early in the set. LIU's largest lead in the set was 10 points, as the Sharks cruised to a 25-18 win in the middle frame.
Saturday's third set saw another strong start by the Sharks, who took an early 7-1 advantage before winning the set 25-11, recording a 3-0 win in the match.
Freshman Brooke Boyles led the Sharks with 11 kills, while senior Karly Klaer and Muhammad tied for a team-high three total blocks. Klaer totaled 33 assists, while sophomore Miabella Musignac finished the match with nine digs.
LIU travels to the University of New Haven Wednesday at 6 p.m.
