EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -
Brett Rylance scored four goals in two games and the Long Island University men's ice hockey team (2-5-0) swept a pair of exhibitions from Maryville University (5-4-0), winning 9-3 on Thursday night and 2-1 on Friday at Northwell Health Ice Center.
On Thursday night, the Sharks started hot, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Rylance 60 seconds in. The onslaught continued as LIU took a 4-0 lead into the first intermission after Rylance scored his second of the frame at 17:18.
Isaac Lambert put the finishing touches on a dominant victory, scoring his second goal of the night at 18:33 of the third. Sixten Jennersjö and
Dylan Kinch each added two assists.
LIU went 3-for-4 on the power play on Thursday, winning the faceoff battle 33-26, and outshooting Maryville 29-23. LIU goaltender
Carter Bickle made 20 saves.
On Friday, the Sharks hopped in front again when
Daniel Baldassarra found the back of the net at 10:08 of the first. Rylance scored his third of the weekend at 15:28 of the first, giving LIU a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The 2-0 edge held until the third period, when Maryville's Sam Edwards scored to cut LIU's lead in half.
With 6:49 to play, a Maryville goal was called back after LIU successfully challenged for offside. Rylance tacked on an empty netter with 1:15 to play, capping off a standout weekend.
Nick Bernardo assisted both of Rylance's goals on Friday night.
In Friday's victory, LIU won the faceoff battle 33-26, and outshot Maryville 33-10. LIU goaltender
Lukas Renaud tallied nine saves.
The Sharks return to action on Friday, Nov. 7 at Robert Morris University in the first game of a weekend pair. Puck drop against the Colonials from Clearview Arena in Moon Township, Pennsylvania is scheduled for 7 p.m.
