SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's volleyball team (6-7, 3-0 NEC) won its fourth consecutive game on Friday night, defeating Le Moyne College on the road in three sets.
Both sides remained tied through the first 10 rallies of the match, but a kill by sophomore Sara Garcia put the Sharks on top with a 6-5 lead in the opening frame, a lead they would not relinquish; a five-point scoring run late in the match helped LIU extend its lead, eventually winning the set 25-20 on a kill by junior Sara van Gisteren to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Finding themselves down 5-2 early in the second set, the Sharks then scored on seven consecutive rallies to regain the lead, eventually claiming a 25-16 win in the second set on a service ace by senior Karly Klaer.
LIU dominated in the third set, leading by as many as 14 points, and earned a 3-0 victory with a 25-11 win in the final set in the match.
van Gisteren totaled 17 kills in the win, followed by 11 from Garcia. Klaer recorded 33 assists, while junior Yasmeen Muhammad posted four total blocks. Sophomore Miabella Musignac's 15 digs were a team-high, followed by 12 from van Gisteren and nine by freshman Brooke Boyles.
The Sharks take on Le Moyne again on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m.
