NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Long Island University women's volleyball team (12-7, 9-0 NEC) won its 10th consecutive match on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils in a three-set sweep on the road.
LIU took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 win in the opening set, but found themselves tied with CCSU at 23 late in the second frame. However, the Sharks took a 2-0 lead in the match after claiming a 25-23 win in the second set.
CCSU held a 14-12 advantage midway through Saturday's third set, but an eight-point LIU scoring run was sparked off a kill by sophomore Bella Correia, as the Sharks eventually won the third set 25-20.
Junior Sara van Gisteren totaled 14 kills in the win, followed by 11 from Correia. Sophomore Sara Garcia finished with four total blocks in the win, while senior Karly Klaer led the Sharks in both assists (25) and digs (16).
LIU returns to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. in Brooklyn.
