LIU records hitting percentage of .313 in win

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's volleyball team (10-7, 7-0 NEC) defeated Mercyhurst University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, remaining unbeaten in conference play.

While the Lakers took an early 1-0 lead in the first set, the Sharks quickly tied the match at one and took the lead on a kill by sophomore Bella Correia, then never relinquished the lead with a 25-20 win in the opening frame.

LIU trailed 13-10 near the midpoint of the second set, but a seven-point scoring run gave the Sharks a 17-13 lead in the set, eventually outscoring the Lakers 8-4 down the stretch to take a 25-17 win in the second set, going up 2-0 in the match.

An eight-point scoring run helped LIU take an early lead in Saturday's final set, where the Sharks defeated the Lakers 25-12 to earn a 3-0 win in the match.

Junior Sara van Gisteren led LIU with 15 kills in the win, followed by 12 by Correia and seven by sophomore Mia Rojas-Avila. Sophomore Miabella Musignac recorded 10 digs, junior Yasmeen Muhammad posted five total blocks, and senior Karly Klaer totaled 38 assists in Saturday's win.
