BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's volleyball team (9-7, 6-0 NEC) kept rolling on Friday night, winning its seventh consecutive match with a 3-0 sweep of Mercyhurst University.
After LIU claimed a 25-22 win in the opening set, the Sharks and Lakers battled in a back-and-forth second set that saw a combined 64 points. With both teams tied at 31, the Sharks took a 2-0 lead in the match by winning the second set 33-31 off of back-to-back kills by sophomore Bella Correia and senior Karly Klaer.
Both squads traded points early in the third set on Friday night, though a 15-4 scoring run in favor of the Sharks pushed the lead to 22-11, with LIU eventually winning the set 25-17.
Friday's sweep was LIU's fifth sweep of the season, and the ninth win for the Sharks over their last 10 matches.
Junior Sara van Gisteren led LIU with 20 kills in the win, followed by nine each from Correia and junior Yasmeen Muhammad, the latter of which recorded a team-high four total blocks. Klaer totaled 41 assists in the win, while sophomore Miabella Musignac led the Sharks with 14 digs.
LIU takes on Mercyhurst against on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m.
