Loretto, P.A. — LIU's six-game winning streak came to an end with a 74-64 loss to Saint Francis on Friday night.
Entering the road contest, the Sharks stood tall as the only team yet to suffer a loss in the NEC. The 6-0 record was the team's best start to its conference play schedule since the 2011-12 season.
Jamal Fuller led the charge as LIU aimed to keep its streak alive. He scored 25 points – just two points off of his season-high of 27 on Nov. 30 – shooting 9 of 16 from the field to go with 9 rebounds. He led the Sharks in both categories, all while adding 3 assists.
Blake Lander added 12 points and 6 rebounds, and
Brent Davis pitched in with 9 points and a season-high 4 steals.
LIU trailed by as many as 17 in the first half, but cut the deficit down to 3 by the break with some much-needed resilience. The Sharks went on an 18-5 run to narrow the gap, with Fuller scoring 15 of his points and
Malachi Davis dishing out 6 assists in the first half alone. The team cut the Red Flash's lead to just one with 15:32 remaining in the second half, but that was as close as they'd come.
LIU will look to resume its winning ways when it visits Mercyhurst on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.
