Jamal Fuller Leads LIU To Sixth Straight Win With 20 Points, 12 Rebounds

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — LIU defeated Mercyhurst on Monday afternoon, coming out victorious 72-63 in an overtime battle.

The win extended the Sharks' winning streak to six, standing tall as the NEC's sole remaining undefeated squad at 6-0 and off to the program's best start since the 2011-12 season.

Malachi Davis, the reigning NEC Player of the Week, led the way with 23 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals. Jamal Fuller had what could be considered his best game of the season, scoring 20 points, grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds and coming up with a season-high 4 blocked shots. The big man also knocked down a season-high four shots from three-point range for a Sharks squad that shot 44% from deep in the contest.

Freshman Shadrak Lasu was also strong defensively, tallying season-highs of 12 rebounds and 3 steals, all while adding 8 points.

The Sharks took a six point lead into halftime and though Mercyhurst was able to inch its way back and force overtime, it was all LIU in the extra period. The Sharks outscored the Lakers 13-4, with Blake Lander emerging to score a couple of timely buckets, pouring in 5 of his 8 points in overtime.

LIU held Mercyhurst to under 36% shooting in the game, boasted three players (Malachi Davis, Brent Davis, and Shadrak Lasu) with three steals apiece, and blocked six shots as a team – one off LIU's season-high of 7.

The Sharks will look to make it seven in a row on Friday, Jan. 24 when the team visits Saint Francis at 7 p.m.
