BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Sharks opened up NEC play with a win, defeating Le Moyne 59-48 on Thursday afternoon.
Freshman Brianna Mead led three scorers in double-figures for LIU, scoring a career-high 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field, including four shots from long range. Janessa Williams added 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Sirviva Legions tallied 12 points, 5 rebounds, and a team-leading 5 assists.
The Sharks fell behind by double-digits in the second quarter, but mounted a comeback by narrowing the gap to five by halftime, and then outscoring Le Moyne 18-7 in the third quarter. LIU is now 1-0 in NEC play and 4-4 at home this season.
LIU will look to keep rolling on Saturday, Jan. 4 when the team visits Chicago State at 1 p.m.
