BROOKLYN, N.Y. — LIU extended its winning streak to five games with an impressive 64-51 victory over Saint Francis on Saturday. This is the first time LIU has started 5-0 since the 2011-12 season.
Malachi Davis rose to the occasion and put on his hero cape yet again, scoring 18 of his game-high 23 points in the second half. He shot 9 of 18 from the field and knocked down three shots from downtown for a Sharks team that shot 40% from long range.
"Big win. Every win is a big win," LIU head coach
Rod Strickland said after the game. "I tell these guys all the time that every game is a new game. We got to be the hunters and not the hunted."
Jamal Fuller scored 8 first half points as the Sharks took a lead into the break, and finished with 10 points and a team-leading 8 rebounds.
Brent Davis added 9 points and 6 rebounds while playing 30 minutes, his most since the season-opener against Ole Miss on Nov. 4.
The Sharks ended the game on a 14-7 run, despite attempts from Saint Francis to claw back into the contest early in the second half. LIU is yet to allow more than 62 points in a game through its undefeated conference play start.
The Sharks will look to keep things rolling on Monday, Jan. 20, hosting Mercyhurst at 2 p.m.
