LIU Continues Hot Start, Improves To 4-0 In Conference Play With Win Over CCSU

New Britain, C.T. — The Sharks emerged with a triumphant win on Sunday, defeating Central Connecticut State 54-52.

Racking up yet another win in conference play brings LIU to 4-0, marking its best start since the 2011-12 season, eventually becoming NEC champions.

The Sharks amassed an eight-point lead by halftime, and withstood late pressure by CCSU by playing lockdown defense when it mattered most. Malachi Davis came up with a key steal with 1:37 remaining to help his team maintain a four-point lead, and Brent Davis came up with a swipe of his own off a final inbounds play by CCSU with three seconds left, ensuring LIU held on for the win.

Malachi Davis scored 12 points for the Sharks and led the way with three steals. Terell Strickland tied his backcourt mate for the team lead in scoring with 12, while also leading LIU with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

LIU will look to continue its hot start when it takes on Saint Francis Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m.
