Box Score 1 LEWISBURG, Penn. — This past weekend at the Bucknell Invitational, the LIU men's water polo team took two out of three against the likes of McKendree, Salem, and Saddleback College in a series of electrifying matches.
The Sharks dove into the tournament with a thrilling 14-11 victory over McKendree, powered by
Josep Jodra Muñoz's stellar performance. He tallied four goals and six exclusions drawn, while running mate
Riyad Shehadeh matched his output with four goals of his own, while also adding five steals.
The second game was a clash against Salem in a high-scoring showdown. While the Sharks netted 16 goals, Salem came away with the win. Shehadeh netted five goals while Muñoz was elite defensively, racking up an impressive 10 steals.
On day two, LIU regained momentum with their matchup against Saddleback College, coming out triumphant in the 17-13 finish. Newcomer
Jack French and Muñoz were unstoppable, each contributing five goals and combining for eight steals.
Anthony Gauna's two backhand goals propelled the Sharks and extended their lead in spectacular fashion. LIU's overall performance showcased the team's tenacity and skill.
Muñoz also hit a personal milestone, scoring the 200th goal of his collegiate career, which has been with LIU and St. Francis (Brooklyn).
LIU returns to the pool for its 2024 debut in Brooklyn when they host Princeton on Saturday, September 28 at 4 p.m. at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
