STORRS, Conn. — LIU women's volleyball finished off an action-packed weekend in Storrs with a close, five-set contest against Youngstown State.
The Sharks took the first set over the Penguins, but Youngstown fought back and stole sets two and three with LIU coming back to win the fourth set convincingly.
Despite a tremendous effort, Youngstown came away with the 3-2 victory (26-24, 23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 7-15).
Sharks outside hitter
Camelia Melendez hit a career-milestone during the match with her 1,000th kill between her time at St. Francis Brooklyn and here at LIU. She led the team with 18 kills on the day.
Bria Plante and
Cristal Paulino Rubel were stalwarts at the net with seven blocks each, while setter
Selina Koç tallied 26 assists.
