BROOKVILLE, N.Y. —  LIU athletics honored student-athletes across 40 teams during its Senior Awards and inducted two former student-athletes, as well as two championship teams, into the Athletics Hall of Fame during its Hall of Fame induction on Monday night.

Jim LeClair '65 and Fred Salon '67 were individually inducted, and the 2017-18 Women's Indoor Track & Field NEC Championship team, and the 2009 Men's Lacrosse National Championship team were honored for their team achievements.

LeClair, a former football player at LIU, played in the NFL for the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers. He was the 16th round draft pick for the San Francisco 49ers during the 1965 National Football League draft.

Salon, a singles and doubles tennis player, compiled a record of 22 wins and 1 loss in regular season singles matches. Following his tennis career at LIU, Fred taught tennis and designed clinics as he pursued a career in education, eventually serving as a principal in the New York City school system.

Led by legendary coach Simon Hodnett, the 2017-18 Women's Indoor Track & Field NEC Championship team earned the Northeast Conference Indoor Championships in 2018 for the seventh time in program history. LIU ended the final day of the NEC Championships by turning a sixth-place start into the school's first indoor crown since 2011, snapping the four-year reign of the previous defending champion. The seventh team title, delivered with 109 team points, also gave LIU an NEC record, surpassing a former NEC member's six championships.

With a program-best record of 15-1, the LIU men's lacrosse team finished the 2009 season as National Champions by defeating Le Moyne College 8-7 in the championship game on May 24, 2009, at Gillette Stadium in Boston, MA. Statistically, the team was also the best in almost every category, out shooting their opponents 696 to 455, scoring 241 goals to 99, and securing 598 ground balls to 387. Additionally, they dominated in face-off wins, with 263 to 130.

Additionally, Mo Elsayed, a two-time Olympian and member of the men's fencing team, was named the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Paola Dominguez, the MAAC women's water polo Player of the Year, was named the Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

Devin Matthews of the wrestling team was named the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This past season, Matthews was a 4x Academic All-American, Academic All-District from College Sports Communicators, and also earned the EIWA Academic Achievement Award.

Rumur Rouille of the women's volleyball team was named the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This past season, Rouille, who carries a 4.0 GPA, was awarded the 2023 NEC Student-Athlete of the Year for Volleyball.

The men's hockey team won the Community Service Award after volunteering over 500 hours of community service to Long Island and the Greater New York Metropolitan Area. The men's team also earned the highest GPA for a male sports team with a 3.79 GPA.

Women's tennis earned the highest GPA for a female sports team with a 3.84 GPA. The program, led by NEC Coach of the Year Chad Davis, holds the highest GPA in the department.
