BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Noah Sorensen's walk-off single in the ninth inning capped off an incredible comeback by the LIU baseball team in the Sharks' 11-10 win against Delaware State.
LIU entered the bottom of the sixth inning trailing 10-1, until
Jake Mastillo stepped up to the plate.
Mastillo, who drove in the team's first run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, sliced a two-run double to center field in the sixth, cutting the deficit to 10-3.
The Sharks were still trailing 10-5 in the seventh inning when Mastillo came back to bat with a pair of runners on base.
Mastillo then launched a three-run home run to left field, pulling the Sharks within two. Mastillo finished the game with six RBIs.
Jack Power drew a bases-loaded ninth-inning walk, bringing LIU within one run.
Mastillo eventually scored the game-tying run on a wild pitch.
That set the stage for Sorensen's heroics. The redshirt freshman sliced a single to left field, driving home
Chandler Ketchup for the winning run.
Noah Tabaie and
Dominic Vassallo were dominant out of the bullpen.
Tabaie pitched 1.2 innings of perfect ball, while Vassallo pitched the final two frames, picking up his first win of the season.
LIU will go for the three-game sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
