BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU softball team was back in action on Thursday when it hosted Manhattan for a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon
In game one, Lindsey Cowans was the hero. She jumps tarted the Sharks' offense in the second inning with an RBI double to give LIU an early 1-0 lead. Cowans was nails in the circle, allowing only two hits in the game and after an Alexia Castro RBI single, hit her second home run of the season to give LIU a 5-0 lead and the win
In game two, it looked like Manhattan took an early 3-0 lead on a home run, but head coach Roy Kortmann appealed that the Jaspers were batting out of order. It was revealed that the five hitter went before the four hitter, canceling out the home run and resulting in an out instead of three runs. From there, Alyssa O'Donnell took over on the mound and never got into any real trouble again. Dallas Andrews drove in Emma Niece in the second inning and went 3-4 in the game. Lily Hinkle would single to left in the fourth and an error by the left fielder would give LIU a 2-0 lead. That would be enough for O'Donnell and the Sharks would sweep the doubleheader with a 2-0 lead.
The Sharks return to the field on Saturday at 1 p.m. for an NEC doubleheader with Sacred Heart.
