MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. — The LIU softball team continued its trip to the Spring Games on Saturday when it took on Siena and Chattanooga.
In the first game against the Saints, LIU had trouble getting runs over the plate, scoring two on three hits and were taken down with self-inflicted errors as Siena won 5-2.
The second game of the day seemed to be going in the same direction at first. The Sharks jumped on the board with a one run lead but a five run fourth by Chattanooga them in a hole.
The four run deficit seemed to wake up something in LIU as they responded with four runs to tie up with RBI from
Lily Hinkle and
Alexia Castro. The runs wouldn't stop there as after
Lindsey Cowans quieted to Mocs' bats, the Sharks added five more runs with some timely singles by
Dallas Andrews,
Gabby Padilla and Castro. Cowans would shut down Chattanooga for two more innings and the Sharks won 10-5
Castro drove in five runs on two hits while Andrews, Hinkle, and Gillies all added one. Padilla had two on the day.
The Sharks return to the field Sunday at 2:15 p.m. to take on Troy.
