BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU men's volleyball team took on Barton College in its first of two back-to-back matchups against the Bulldogs.
The Sharks had to hold their breath for a bit in the first set but kills by
Chase Celichowski,
Arthur Sueur and
Kale Spencer would widen the gap as LIU took the set 25-19.
The second set was much closer. The Sharks led by as much as 10 but the Bulldogs came storming back to gain a 22-21 lead. Barton had set point at 24-23 until
Gio Collazo decided to absolutely take over. The San Juan, P.R. native rattled off two kills and a block for a 26-24 set win.
After that, LIU had every ounce of momentum and cruised to a 25-15 third set victory.
Collazo led the team in kills (12), digs (eight), blocks (4.5) and aces (three).
Jack Sarnowski led LIU in assists with 34 and recorded his 2,500 career assist in the first set.
Kale Spencer had 11 kills with a .500 hitting percentage while
Chase Celichowski tallied eight kills.
The Sharks will take on Barton again tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Steinberg Wellness Center.
