MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. — The LIU softball team took on the Chippewas on Central on Michigan in its first matchup of the Spring Games on Thursday afternoon.
The Sharks struck first in the first inning after a
Gabby Padilla single and its stayed 1-0 until Central Michigan scored two in the fifth due to some small ball with a sac fly and steal of home.
LIU would respond quickly, taking back the lead in the sixth thanks to RBI singles from
Alyssa Polemeni and
Kaylee Clarkson.
Mari Narvaiz would add some insurance in the top of the seventh with a two-run double.
Lindsey Cowans earned the victory in the game, striking out four in seven innings.
The Sharks return to the field Friday morning when they take on Siena at 10 a.m.
