BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU men's volleyball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon to finish up its NEC weekend doubleheader.
The Sharks had trouble finding a rhythm in the first set and could not take advantage of an early lead. They ultimately dropped it 26-28 and fell behind early one set to none.
In the second set, D'Youville would just not go away and changed were made to the LIU lineup as head coach Kai Dugquem brought in Jack Sarnowski and Vanja Petrasinovic with the score tied at 12. The Sharks and Saints continued to battle with neither team being able to pull away until very late in the set. Kills by Livan Moreno and Petrasinovic as well as block by Suer would give the Sharks a three point lead but D'Youville once agains came back to tie it up. Tied at 24, a Saints service error and big kill by Chase Celichowski would give the Sharks the lead and tie the match at one set each.
From there, momentum swung completely in LIU's favor as early leads would grow as the sets went on. The Sharks would win the match in four sets (26-28, 26-24, 25-20, 25-20).
Moreno led the team with 12 kills, followed by Chase Celichowski with 10 and Kale Spencer with nine. Kasey Closet and Petrasinovic each added eight.
Sueur had a team-high seven blocks.
Celichowski led the team in service aces (four) and digs (nine).
Sarnowski had a team-high 29 assists.
The Sharks return to the court on Friday when they travel to Sacred Heart at 5 p.m
