BROOKLYN, N.Y. — On Friday night the LIU men's volleyball team honored Kasey Clouet, Eddy Alexandre, Utpal Hand, Arthur Sueur and Livan Moreno as a part of senior night.
The Sharks were then locked into a battle with NEC foe Daemen as both teams fought for position in the NEC standings.
The Sharks did not have much trouble in the first set, taking it 25-20 but Daemen stormed back with a dominant second set victory 18-25.
The third set was an absolute thriller with neither team wanting to go down two sets to one. Neither the Sharks or Wildcats could pull away as the biggest lead was only two. LIU would look at set point twice but Daemen would respond, tying up the score. The third time, however, Moreno buried a kill to give LIU a 27-25 set win.
Momentum then swung in LIU's favor as they gained a five point lead late in the fourth but Daemen would fight its way back, tying the score at 22. A Wildcat service error would give the Sharks an opening as stellar defense would force two more Daemen errors and LIU would take the match in four sets (25-20, 18-25, 27-25, 25-22).
Moreno had a season-high and team-high 17 kills, followed by Alexandre with 15.
Clouet had a team-high six blocks followed by Suer with five.
Jack Sarnowski led the team in assists with 35.
The Sharks return to the court Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they take on D'Youville.
