NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The LIU softball team knocked off CCSU twice on Friday to move to 16-12 on the season and 4-1 in NEC play.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Sharks jumped on the Blue Devils' pitching, scoring all five of their runs in the first two innings thanks to timely hitting from
Emma Niece,
Devon Medina,
Lily Hinkle and home run by
Gabby Padilla. An early four run lead would be enough for
Lindsey Cowans as she settled in and recorded her ninth win of the season while striking out seven.
The second matchup was driven by starting pitcher
Alyssa O'Donnell who twirled a one-hit, five strikeout complete game shutout. This was O'Donnell's second shutout in a row, dropping her ERA to 2.09. LIU's runs came from an
Alyssa Polemeni home run and
Dallas Andrews RBI double as the Sharks went on to win 2-0.
LIU will return to the field on Sunday at noon ot wrap up its series in Connecticut.
